While the thought that you are your own doctor may scare you. When you stop and think about who heals your body, there is only, ever one answer. YOU!!!
Your body is a self healing mechanism. The main job your body is focused on is keeping you alive and healthy. While at times it may feel like your body is against you. Especially if you suffer frequently from getting sick or fatigue, pain, stiffness or headaches. These are what we like to call 'symptoms' they are not the root cause of what is causing you distress, and it is NOT your body working against you. When a symptom is present, it is because your body is trying to get your attention. It usually starts with a subtle whisper and it can grow into a loud demanding yell, if you didn't hear the body communication the first 50,000 times.
To be the best doctor of yourself you need to establish a healthy connection and communication with your body. You need to realise every pang and pain is a form of communication. You need to investigate when you have ingestion after a particular meal. Or when you have numbness in your hands after sleeping on your side, or when you get sharp shooting pain under your foot. Everything has meaning.
I have found two practices to help bring awareness to my mind-body connection.
1/ Deep breathing meditation: Doing the practice of checking in with yourself. Starting at the top of the head, gently scan down through the body, noticing what feels comfortable and what feels uncomfortable. What is pleasant and unpleasant sensations, learn to notice what happens when we simply hang in there and feel what's going on without trying to fix or change anything. Remember, you're not trying to change anything, this exercise is simply to make you aware, that you can then know what needs addressing.

2/ Chiropractic: The philosophy of chiropractic is founded upon restoring proper neurological function to support the optimal healing environment for the body. In other words, Chiropractic care is based on the understanding that stress in the spine produces interferences in the functioning of the body's nervous system. The communication pathways from your brain to the rest of your body via your spinal column needs to have the interference by a manual adjustment, so the brain can communicate what each organ, cell, ligament, bone, muscle needs.
In science there is a name for this: homeostasis. Our brain and nervous system work tirelessly to keep us in homeostasis. Can you see now how your body's number one job is to keep you healthy and alive. Your nervous system is the master control system and needs to be functioning well at all times as our body NEVER stops working to heal and maintain us. A chiropractic lifestyle is healthier and more affordable than drugs or surgery. Know that health cannot come from outside of the body. Health comes from inside of you!
